General
How long can we wait until we have a funeral?
The State of Nebraska requires that final disposition be done within 30 days. Special exceptions can be made with written permission from the State of Nebraska.

We would like a less traditional and more personal funeral?
We would be honored to provide you with ideas to personalize your loved ones funeral.

What is the cost of a funeral?
The cost of the funeral is dependent upon the services used and the merchandise selected. There are three places where expenses are incurred: Professional Services, Merchandise selected (casket, vault), Cash Advance Items. Cash advance items are items that we pay for on a family's behalf, that are not directly our services. These items include clergy honorarium, music honorarium, grave opening, flowers, lunch, and monument work; which are the most common cash advance items. With the many options available to you, it is hard to determine what an "average" funeral cost is. We would be more than happy to sit down with you and discuss the expenses either in person or by phone as the law requires. We invite the comparison of funeral expenses.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, check, money order, assignment of insurance, funeral trusts, burial insurance, Visa and Master Card.

Cremation
Can we still have a traditional funeral with cremation as final disposition?
Yes. A tradition funeral with viewing and cremation following is possible for families that select cremation as final disposition.

Do we need to sign papers for authorization for cremation?
Yes. The next of kin must sign an authorization form to consent to the cremation. We will also attain the signature of the attending physician as well as the county attorney, all of which must be done before a cremation can be performed.

Burial
Do we have to purchase an outer burial container?
Most cemeteries in our area require the use of an outer burial container and we have several selections for you to choose from.

Our family lot has surface cover plates, can we still use them?
Cemeteries will allow you to use surface coverplates to mark a grave so long as they have been used before on the family lot.

Do you sell headstones?
Yes.We can help you select a headstone and give you a quote as to the cost of the stone.

Out of Town Death
What if we experience a death outside of Falls City?
If you have a family member or loved one who dies outside of Falls City and you desire Dorr and Clark Funeral Home to handle your arrangements, the first thing to do is call us at 402-245-2424 and we will handle all your needs with one phone call.

How do you get our loved one back to Falls City for a funeral and burial?
When you call the funeral home and notify us of a death we will work with a funeral home in the town where the death occured and have that funeral home prepare the deceased for transportation. If the death occured within driving distance we will transport the deceased. If the death occured over a considerable distance we may use air transportation.

Social Security
Will Social Security pay for my funeral?
No. This is a common misunderstanding. Social Security will only pay a death benefit of $255.00 to a surviving spouse.

Do we need a death certificate for Social Security?
No. The Social Security Administration only requires a proof a death form to be filled out, this will be done by the funeral home.

Veteran's benefits
What benefits do I receive for being a veteran?
As an Honorably Discharged veteran you will receive from the government, a flag, your choice of headstone, and graveside honors by a Military Honor Guard. You may also qualify for payment for part of your services depending on your circumstances.

Is the VA headstone free?
There is no cost to attain the headstone from the Veterans Administration. There is a charge to set the stone at the grave which will need to be paid by the family.
