Dean Palmer, 90, of Falls City, NE, passed away September 15, 2014 at Falls City. He was born July 6, 1924 northeast of Barada, NE to the late Perry and Emma (Smith) Palmer.

Dean enlisted in the U. S. Army on June 19, 1945. He spent 10 months in Berlin Germany as Construction Foreman repairing bridges and buildings destroyed by the bombing during World War II. He earned the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal on November 13, 1946.

On August 15, 1985 he married Caroline (Fiene) Sailors at Coryell Park, NE.

Dean was raised in the Barada area and attended District 20 Patterson Country school and graduated Shubert High School in 1941. He farmed with his father and continued after his father’s death. After returning from service he continued farming part time and also was employed at Frontier Homes, Falls City Mercantile and Cooper Nuclear Plant at Brownville, NE. The couple moved to the present family home in 1985 and he retired from farming in 1989. He was a member of Barada United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Chaplin for Shubert American Legion Color Guard for 60 years and member of Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

 

Dean is survived by his wife, Caroline of Falls City, step-children, Doug Sailors and his wife Margie of Falls City, Diane McCann of Falls City, step-daughter-in-law, Cindy Sailors of Falls City, step-grandchildren, Valerie Buckminster and her husband Blake of Falls City, Kimberly Nolte and her husband Ryan of Falls City, Kellie Dean and her husband Art of Falls City, Kristi Reiss and her fiancé Dan Simon of Falls City, Scott Sailors and his wife Emily of Humboldt, NE, Jessica and Matthew McCann both of Falls City, and nine step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Noble, a sister in infancy, step-son, Leon Sailors, Step- granddaughter, Tammy Sailors.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Yount officiating. Interment will be in Harris Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-5:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
