Evelyn Jane Burns, 90, of Falls City, NE, passed away January 30, 2015 at Falls City. She was born January 3, 1925 at Verdon, NE, to the late Dr. Clyde and Louise (Nagel) Medlar.
On December 31, 1948 she married David E. Burns at Nebraska City, NE. He passed away June 10, 2004.
Evelyn was raised at Verdon and graduated Verdon High School in 1942 and was Valedictorian. She attended Doane College for 2 ½ years before transferring to University of Nebraska and earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was a member of Cadet Corps, RSVP, Nebraska Alumni Association, United Methodist Women, Blood Bank Volunteer, Cub and Boy Scout and Campfire Girls Leader, 30 Year volunteer for Reach to Recovery American Cancer Society, Senior Center Volunteer, in 1941 received a gold medal for National 4-H meat judging. When married she was the visiting nurse for Richardson County Country Schools. During her life she worked at the Falls City Hospital at various times until 1980 when she retired from Nursing. She was a member of First United Methodist Church at Falls City.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Thomas and his wife Carrie of Plattsmouth, NE, daughter, Mary K. Burns of Lincoln, NE, brother, Dr. Clyde Medlar and his wife Jacqueline of Columbus, NE and two grandchildren, Justin and Kyle Burns. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Reverend John Hogue officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
