John H. Morehead

John H. Morehead, 87, of Falls City, NE, passed away April 12, 2015 at Falls City. He was born June 17, 1927 to the late Edwin J. and Anna G. (Gist) Morehead and the grandson of the late Governor and Mrs. John H. Morehead.

Mr. Morehead was raised at Falls City and graduated from Falls City High School in 1945 and was drafted into the military. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force in September of 1947, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska. He graduated from UNL with degrees in Law and International Law in 1952.

Mr. Morehead became a Special Agent of the FBI after completing training in Washington, D.C. and Quantico, VA. He was assigned to Burlington, VT where he met Amalia Pizzagalli. They were married on September 10, 1955 at Burlington. They spent their early married life in New York City, where he had been transferred. He resigned from the FBI and they moved to Falls City in 1958 where he became associated with Richardson County Bank and Trust. He served in various capacities with the bank and was elected its President in 1962, serving as President, CEO and Chairman of the Board until his retirement in 2011. He was an excellent trap shooter having won many Nebraska State and National awards. He was involved in many civic activities during the course of his career. He received the Jaycee DSA Award in 1959. He served many years as president of Downtown Modernization, Inc. an entity founded and funded by local business persons and dedicated to downtown retailing.

Mr. Morehead is survived by his wife, Amalia of Falls City, children, Marc and his wife Marcia of Falls City, Karen Stevenson and her husband Kirk of Chicago, IL, Kristine Cain and her husband Michael of Omaha, NE, Bruce and his wife Karen of Denver, CO, Amalia LaViolette and her husband Richard of St. Louis, MO, sister, Carol Stebbins of Helena, MT, sixteen grandchildren, thirteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth on March 11, 2000.

Mr. Morehead has been cremated and private family services will be held at a later date.

For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to family choice, which will be included in a scholarship fund which the family has established for Richardson County Students. Donations may be mailed to the family.
