Kenneth Coonce

Kenneth C. Coonce, 82, of Falls City, NE, passed away August 23, 2015 at Lincoln, NE. He was born September 19, 1932 at Rulo, NE to the late Noah and Mary (Steinauer) Coonce.

Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army on December 28, 1951 at Omaha, NE.  Served in Korea and earned the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars, United Nations Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was discharged from the Army on September 24, 1953.  He then entered the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged on July 31,1975.

On June 12, 1955 he married Mary Lou Haeffele at Falls City, NE

Kenneth was raised in Rulo and Graduated from Rulo High School in 1950.  He enlisted in the United States Army and served for 23 years retiring in 1975.  Kenny returned to Falls City and worked at Carpet Plus in Hiawatha.  He served on the District 56 School Board for 2 terms and drove the Head Start school bus.  He owned and operated Falls City Lanes for 20 years, retiring in 2015. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard, VFW, American Legion, D.A.V. and V.V.A.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Falls City, children, Audrey Pedersen and her husband B. J. of Falls City, Kendra Ballagh and her husband Brian of Falls City, Edward and his wife Donna of Topeka, KS, Jill Sumpter and her husband Russell of Sultan, WA, brothers, William and John and his wife Edna both of Rulo, sisters, Mary Lou Hill of Falls City, Inez Foster and her husband Kenneth of Dallas, TX, Mary Helen Croxton of Powhattan, KS, fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren with two on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James, Robert and Ronald, sisters, Lula Hall, Bev Simpson, Ramona Eckley and Maxine Dannecker and a grandson, Jarod Coonce.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church with Reverend Daniel Gifford officiating. Interment will be in Rulo Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorials to Rulo Cemetery or Family Choice.
