Philip Woods

Philip Woods, 88, of Falls City, NE passed away on February 22, 2017. He was born October 13, 1928 at Waycross, GA to the late John & Ruth (Fann) Woods.

He joined in the United States Navy on March 5, 1946 and honorably discharged on September 15, 1949.

He married Ruth Wilson on January 6, 1949 at Hiawatha, KS.

Phil was raised in Waycross, GA and graduated from Wacona High School at Waycross in 1944. He worked for J.A. Jones Construction Company at Brunswick, GA, working in the ship yards. While still in the service, he married Ruth Wilson on January 6, 1949 at Hiawatha, KS. After the service, the couple moved to Omaha, NE and attended Railroad school and became a station agent and a telegraph operator. The couple moved to Tennessee in November 1950 where he worked for Southern Railroad until June of 1953, then moved to Atchison, KS until coming to Falls City in 1963 and worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad, later becoming Union Pacific. He also worked for Sterling Bahr doing TV repairs. Philip retired in August of 1988. He was an active member of the First Christian Church, where he served all positions. He also was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge #963 where he also served in all positions and the American Legion Post #102 of Falls City.

Phil is survived by his wife, Ruth Woods of Falls City; daughter, Donna Krohn and her husband Gary of Wheaton, KS; sons, Michael Woods and his wife Eve of Hutchison, KS; Morris Woods and his wife Joyce of Joaquin, TX; Dr. Timothy Woods and his wife Susan of Wamego, KS; Alan Woods and his wife Sandi of Omaha, NE; Scott Woods of Falls City; Tony Woods and his wife Kelli of Smithville, MO; sister, Christine Lee of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Sheila Woods of Brunswick, GA; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Morris & James, sister, Helen Harper, and great-granddaughter, Hailey Sopoci.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church with Reverend Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Military honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Family prefers memorials to family choice.
