Kenneth  J.  Baker
d. 12/26/2007

Kenneth J. Baker, 86, of Humboldt, NE, passed away December 26, 2007 at Auburn, NE. He was born September 26, 1921 at Dawson, NE to the late Leon & Gladys (Dandliker) Baker.

 

He enlisted in the U. S. Army on October 23, 1942 at Camp Perry, OH. He served in Tunisia, Po Valley, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and North Appeninnes. He earned the EAME Theater Ribbon with five bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 14, 1945 at Camp Atterbury, IN.

 

He married Lillian F. Bowers April 7, 1948 at Shenandoah, IA. She passed away Dec. 3, 1991.

 

Kenneth attended Honey Creek High School.  He farmed in the Shubert & Barada, NE areas and also helped other farmers.  He lived in Omaha, NE and worked for the Duncan Hines Food Company for twenty-five years.  Mr. Baker later moved to North Bend, WA and worked for Weyerhauser Lumber Co. for fourteen years.  He retired in 1989 and moved back to Humboldt, NE in 1990 and has lived there since. He was a member of Harvey Mann American Legion Post #269 of Humboldt, NE.

 

Kenneth is survived by daughters, Marilyn Novotny and Glenna Morgan both of North Bend, WA, brothers, Jerry and wife Nancy of Upland, CA, Charles and wife Mary Ann of Sabetha, KS, sisters, Phyllis Flentie and husband Bill of Temple, TX, Judy Raumbaugh and husband John of Killeen, TX, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, June Ege of Yakima, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Evelyn Christman and a brother, Keith.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Berry officiating. Inurnment will be in Harris Cemetery at Barada. Military graveside honors by Harvey Mann American Legion Post #269.
