Irene  L.  Aitken

Irene L. Aitken, 91, of Falls City, NE, passed away March 3, 2009 at Falls City.  She was born April 6, 1917 at Vesta, NE to the late Herman E. and Jessie (Berry) Hahn.

On September 25, 1939 she married Thomas D. Aitken at Falls City.  He passed away June 3, 1993.

Irene was born and raised at Vesta and graduated from the Tecumseh, NE High School and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.  She taught in the Junior High School at Norfolk, NE for one year.  The couple established their home in Falls City when married.  After raising their family, Irene renewed her teaching certificate and taught High School English at Morrill, KS for one year; at Dawson, NE for three years and at Falls City High School for 12 ½ years.

She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Falls City; member and past Regent of Catholic Daughters; member and past president of the Altar Society; member of the Falls City Retired Teachers Association and the FFF Home Extension Club.  She had also been active in various community groups and activities over the years. 

Irene is survived by her sons Thomas and wife Janet of Falls City, Dr. Joe and wife Sherye of South Sioux City, NE, Phillip of Falls City and Robert and wife Roxie of Falls City, her daughter Mary Louise Donohue and husband Terry of Omaha, NE, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Ed Hahn.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with Msgr. Robert A. Roh the presiding priest.  Interment will be in the Falls City Catholic Cemetery.

A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 4:00 P.M. at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home.  A parish rosary will be recited on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends following the Rosary.
