Gene  Banks
d. 6/7/2009

Gene Banks, 82, of Falls City, NE, passed away June 7, 2009 at Falls City. He was born November 8, 1926 at Fairview, KS to the late J. Harold and Bridget (Farrell) Banks.

 

Gene enlisted in the U. S. Air Force on September 4, 1946 at Marshal Field, KS. He earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan. He was honorably discharged on September 6, 1949 at Ft. Lawton, WA.

 

He married Fern Schuetz in 1952 and they later divorced.

 

Gene was raised in Fairview and graduated from Fairview High School in 1944. He farmed before enlisting in the U. S. Air Force. Following his discharge he farmed and then became employed at the Horton News Paper. He then moved to Falls City and became employed at the Falls City Journal. He retired as the shop foreman in 1988. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post #102, VFW Post #1765, Falls City Elks Lodge all of Falls City.

 

Gene is survived by his son, Steven of Omaha, NE, daughter, Julie Johansen and her husband Thomas Smith of Hiawatha, KS, brother, Mike of Topeka, KS, sisters, Mary Strathman and Betty Bien and her husband George both of Sabetha, KS, granddaughter, Christina Burton and her husband Marq of Topeka, great-grandchildren, Aleksa Kent, Riley and Ryen Blalock, Alivya, Ryker and Isaiah Burton all of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Robert A. Roh as the presiding priest. Interment will be in Falls City Catholic Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

 

A Parish Rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 7:30 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
