Dorothy M. Schawang, 90, of Falls City, NE, passed away February 16, 2010 at FallsCity. She was born June 26, 1919 at Shubert, NE to the late Ross and Elizabeth (Kelly) Stokes.
On November 3, 1938 she married Bernard J. Schawang at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Arago. He passed away June 23, 2004.
Dorothy attended BaradaHigh School. The couple established their home in the Barada, NE area when married and she was a farm wife and homemaker her entire life. They lived in the Barada area until moving into FallsCity in 1996. She was a member Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at FallsCity.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Kenneth and his wife Elaine, Ralph, Stephen and his wife Cheryl, and Leon all of Falls City, daughter, Patty Schawang of Lincoln, NE, brother, Roy Stokes and his wife Evelyn of Harlem, GA, sister-in-law, Gladys Stokes of Falls City, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, foster grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Mearle Sailors, brother, Ervin Stokes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Robert A. Roh as the presiding priest. Interment will be in FallsCityCatholicCemetery.
A Parish Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 6:30 PM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
