Bernard “Barney” Koelzer, 86, of Falls City, NE, passed away February 20, 2010 at FallsCity. He was born January 3, 1924 at Axtell, KS to the late Sebastian and Mary (Alfers) Koelzer.
On February 21, 1946 he married Betty Schulenberg at Sts. Peter and Paul Church at FallsCity.
Barney moved to Dawson in 1930 and graduated from DawsonHigh School in 1942. The couple established their home on a farm east of FallsCity for a year and then moved to into FallsCity where he worked as a mechanic for John Deere. In 1950 they moved to a farm west of Rulo, NE where he farmed. They moved back to FallsCity in 1987. He did custom farm work and helped area farmers until 2000 when he retired. He enjoyed doing antique tractor restorations. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at FallsCity.
Barney is survived by his wife, Betty of Falls City, sons, Steve and his wife Frankie of Sumter, SC, Tim of Rulo, Bob and his wife Pam of Eaton, CO, brother, Robert and his wife Dorothy of Kansas City, KS, sisters, Rita Daveaux and her husband Robert of Holton, KS, Marge Kopf of Falls City, Mary Elizabeth Simpson of Omaha, NE, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerry Koelzer and 2 in infancy, sisters, Dorothy Kerl and 1 in infancy and a granddaughter, Danielle Nicole Koelzer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Robert A. Roh as the presiding priest. Interment will be in FallsCityCatholicCemetery.
A Parish Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 6:30 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
