Edna Bertha Bangert, 91, of Falls City, NE, passed away June 19, 2010 at FallsCity. She was born June 12 1919 at FallsCity to the late Ed and Frances (Buthman) Buchholz.
On June 28, 1941 she married Gerald Bangert at FallsCity. He passed away January 11, 1996.
Edna was raised at FallsCity and graduated from SacredHeartHigh School in 1937. She graduated from CreightonUniversity in 1941 with a B. A. in Journalism. When the couple married they established their home in Omaha and moved to Canada during the war for her husband’s job. They moved to FallsCity in 1944 to a farm northeast of FallsCity. They moved into FallsCity in 1982.
Her Jesuit education impacted the totality of her life in her relationship with her family, her community and her church and with the world community. She lived with and acted on a constant awareness of the world around her, rather it be social injustice or care of the environment. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Athenaeum and the Historical Society, all of FallsCity.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann McKeighan and her husband Jerry of Omaha, NE, Betty Moffatt of Denver, Co, Sister Theresa Bangert of Kansas City, KS, Rita Cavataio of Stafford, VA, Margaret McMeekin and her husband Mike of Omaha, Dolores Barrientos and her husband Carlos of Omaha, Joan Scheel and her husband Dr. Mike of Lincoln, NE, Patricia Doig and her husband Dr. David of Denver, sons, John and his wife Cindy of Falls City, Charles of San Francisco, CA, Joe and his wife Susan of Falls City, Tom and his wife Lana of Falls City, forty grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Sean Moffatt, and a sister, Marie O’Grady.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Robert A. Roh as the presiding priest. Interment will be in FallsCityCatholicCemetery.
A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 4:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
Liturgy of the Hours will be recited on Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the family will receive friends following.
The family prefers memorials to Sacred Heart Endowment Fund at FallsCity or CristoRaySchool at Kansas City in lieu of flowers.
