Earl L. Rieger, 93, of Falls City, NE, passed away January 2, 2013. He was born September 24, 1919 at FallsCity to the late Otto C. and Lydia L. (Werner) Rieger.
On April 12, 1942 he married Minta Carol Fischer at the ZionEvangelicalChurch, northeast of FallsCity. She passed away February 22, 2008.
Earl was raised on a farm northeast of FallsCity and graduated from FallsCityHigh School in 1937. The couple established their home in Omaha, NE when married and lived there for a year before returning to the Fischer farm in the rural Rulo, NE area where they lived until moving into FallsCity in 1993. He spent his lifetime farming and sold seed corn for DeKalb. He retired in 1995 and remained active in farming and gardening. He was a member of the BethelUnitedMethodistChurch and had served in many positions for the Church. He had also been a Board member of the Richardson County Extension Board and was active with Farm Bureau.
Earl is survived by his daughters, Sharon Comer and her husband Alvin of Omaha, Catherine Palmer and her husband Frank of Falls City, son, Leonard Rieger and his wife Susan of Rulo, six grandchildren, two-step grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Carolee Martin, brothers, Clarence W. and Kenneth W. Rieger, sister, Catherine Funk and a grandson, Terron Jones.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2012 at 10:30 AM at BethelUnitedMethodistChurch with Pastor Karla Shafer officiating. Inurnment will be in Bethel-ZionCemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-8:00 PM at the home of Catherine and Frank Palmer at 1713 Towle St..
