Everyone deserves to have an Uncle Del. So many fond memories of holidays and trips to the beach. But it's strange what things come to mind when a loved one passes away. Playing Atari (basketball and combat) with him on Xmas day at the old house, throwing a football in the ocean, and him dancing with Aunt Chris at the bar the night of Lisa's wedding. Those are just a few of so many memories.
One thing that has stayed with me all these years though:
When Jeff and I were at school at Fork Union I got to come home with Jeff on the weekends. We were a troublesome combination to say the least. I don't even remember what we did to get in trouble (I'm sure it was Jeff's idea.) After he was done delicately dealing with Jeff, I was next. So there I was face to face with Uncle Del, 17 years old, at his kitchen table very late at night, all alone. It became clear that Aunt Chris was not coming to my rescue. I was terrified! I don't remember much other than his parting words (and they have stuck with me all these years), "You just better hope your parents get tired of your sh** before I do."
My brothers and I are so saddened by Uncle Del's passing and I want to pass along all of our deepest sympathies. Love you Chris, Jeff, and Lisa...wish I could be there! But we are all there in spirit...Godspeed, Uncle Del!

Uncle Del, You will be greatly missed. Will always remember how you would come for a visit, and steal my bed!! Never minded it at all. Love you.

My condolences to Del's family. I enjoyed getting to know Del through our exchange of family history information and our shared love of genealogy. RIP Del.

I will miss you and think about you often. You were the best uncle and friend. I'll always remember your life lessons and the time you got me in trouble.....The Hen House trip at 2:30 in the morning......LOL! I'll keep the family tree going and continue what we started all of those many years ago. RIP....I love you.
