Irene “Renie” Gerweck, 78, of Falls City, NE, passed away July 13, 2017 at Falls City. She was born August 5, 1938 at Arcadia, NE to John and Vivian (Kaminski) Jolkowski.
On May 9, 1959 she married Max Rathman at Grand Island, NE. He passed away June 8, 1986. She then married Bud Gerweck on January 25, 1992 at Falls City.
Renie was raised at Grand Island and graduated Central Catholic High School in 1955. She then enrolled at Duchesne College at Omaha, transferring to St. Francis School of Nursing at Grand Island as a Registered Nurse. She had a 50 year career in nursing working at Grand Island, Cozad and Falls City. She was a strong and independent woman, she had a passion for traveling and connecting with people through the written word. She was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Falls City, Catholic Daughters, past board member of Lydia Bruun Library and Community Medical Center.
Renie is survived by her husband, Bud of Falls City, daughters, Tracy Sells of Rulo, NE, Vicki Lehr and her husband Tony of Gladstone, MO, son, Chris Rathman and his wife Kim of Maple Grove, MN, step-children, Pam Bower and her husband Ken of Hot Springs, AR, Mike Gerweck and his wife Lesa of Lee’s Summit, MO, Sue Gerweck of Liberty, MO, Rob Gerweck and his wife Kristy and Angie Lampe and her husband Mike both of Falls City, sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and a brother, Richard Jolkowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Thomas Dunavan as the presiding priest. Interment will be in Falls City Catholic Cemetery.
A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be recited on Sunday at 4:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
A Parish Rosary will be recited on Sunday at 7:00 PM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
