Marjorie Rider

Marjorie H. Rider passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Penrose Memorial hospital with her children at her side after a short hospital stay. She had been living in Colorado Springs, Colorado for the past several years.

Marjorie was born in Brownville, Nebraska on September 13, 1924. She was the daughter of Howard and Bessie Moore. She lived most of her life in Nebraska including Nemaha, Falls City, and Lincoln, and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado late in her life. In 1943, she married James Rider after his naval service in WWII. Together, they raised two children; Ann and Glen. Jim died in 1980.

Marjorie was also known as Mick, Mickey, and Marge to friends and family members.
Marjorie graduated from Nemaha High School and attended Peru State Teachers College where she earned a BS degree in teaching. Marjorie loved teaching and was involved in teaching and giving instructions her whole life. She taught 3rd grade at South Elementary School in Falls City for over 30 years. After retiring from teaching, she moved to Lincoln and worked as housemother at the Agmen fraternity at UNL east campus. She continued to stay involved in teaching by volunteering in the Lincoln Public School system. After she retired again, she remained in Lincoln for a few years until concerns for her health prompted her to move to Colorado Springs to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She continued to live independently in her own apartment until her death.
Aside from teaching, Marjorie loved her family, cooking, and travel. She was thrilled to see the birth of her great-grandchildren, as well as maintaining close ties with her sister and brother; Carol and Branson. She was an avid letter writer and always included a note in the many cards she sent. She continued to maintain her friendships, even with people she had not seen in years. As for her cooking, she was well known for some special items that only she could master. She traveled extensively with Jim while he was alive and continued to travel with friends and family even after his death.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Ann Wildenstein of Colorado Springs and Glen and Linda Rider of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; her sister and brother, Carol Pasco of Auburn, Nebraska and Branson and Betty Moore of Olathe, Kansas. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Lee and Kay Wildenstein and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Nora.

Memorial services will be held at Dorr & Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:30 AM with Reverend Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Inurnment to follow in Nemaha Cemetery.
