Jean Draney

Jean Draney, 81, of Falls City, NE, passed away November 27, 2023 at Falls City. She was born January 12, 1942 at Falls City to Emmet and Lucille (Portrey) Draney.

She married Larry Polanek and they were later divorced, she then married Helmet Shafer and they were later divorced.

Jean lived in various places over the years until moving back to Falls City in 1989 where she worked for Flairfold for six years and Sac & Fox Casino for many years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Roxann Melson and her husband Donald of Naperville, IL, Colleen Hoffman and her husband Richard of Indiana, Gina Polanek and Cathy Polanek and her husband Lonie Bahr both of Falls City, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Emmett Draney and Gary Portrey and a sister, Suzanne Shaw.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Jim Meysenberg as the presiding priest. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be held the next day at 2:00 PM at Falls City Catholic Cemetery.

Open viewing and visitation will take place on Monday from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM

A Parish Rosary will be recited 1 hour prior to service time at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
