Joyce Carter

Joyce Carter, 97, of Lincoln, NE, passed away February 2, 2025 at Lincoln, NE. She was born January 9, 1928 to Oliver and Sally (Larson) McLenon.

Joyce Elaine Carter (McLenon), 97, was born in Effingham, KS on January 9, 1928 to Oliver and Sally Mclenon. She passed away on February 2, 2025 at Lincoln, NE.

She was raised on a farm near Lancaster, KS, and attended school in a one room school house from 1st grade to 6th grade. Then attended Effingham Middle School from 7th grade to 8th grade and graduated Effingham High School in 1945. After High School from 1945 to 1947, she worked at the United Service Organizations (USO) which was a major provider of entertainment and social services to the U.S. military. In the fall of 1947, she attended Stephenson College for Girls and graduated in the spring of 1949 with a degree in fashion. On June 26, 1949 she married William H. Carter and lived in Beatrice, NE where they had their first son, William Mac Carter on May 27, 1951. In 1951 Joyce and her husband moved to Falls City, NE where Bill started his career as an insurance agent. On January 23, 1955 they had their second son, Robert D. Carter. Joyce spent her years as a mother, raising her two sons and attending to the needs of the family and being involved with Cub Scouts, PEO, and Bridge Clubs. They attended Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church located in Falls City on Towle St. She also enjoyed taking trips, many of which were through Bill's Insurance Agency.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband William, her parents, Oliver and Sally McLenon and Bill's parents, Peter "Nick" Carter and Ruth Carter, Daughter-in-law Judi Carter. She is survived by her sons, William Mac Carter and Robert D Carter and his wife Diane, grandchildren, Megan "Carter" Nelson and husband Josh , Peter Carter, Lona "Carter" Thies and husband Jesse and Will Carter and wife Naomi  and 10 great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. 

A funeral will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
