Lloyd Bindle

Lloyd Francis Bindle, 99, of Falls City, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021, at Falls City Community Medical Center. He was born on March 3, 1922, 10 miles south of Sabetha, KS to the late Frank Bindel and Mildred (Hows) Bindel. 

He attended Powhattan High School, Powhattan, KS graduating in 1941.  He went on to attend Chillicothe Missouri Business College for approximately a year until he entered the U.S. Navy in WWII in 1942 where he was stationed at Midway Island and Pearl Harbor until he was discharged while living in Fallbrook, CA in 1945. Lloyd worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad for 8 years and Great Lakes Gas Pipeline approximately 1 year before he began working for the U.S. Postal Service around 1954 retiring after 30 years in 1984.  On April 30, 1945, he married the love of his life June Elizabeth Wagner at Hiawatha, KS. The couple established their home in Fallbrook, CA, where Lloyd was stationed while serving in the Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, they moved to Falls City until 1952 when they moved to Atchison, KS for a short period of time while Lloyd worked for the railroad, returning to Falls City permanently in 1953. 

He was a very active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church for many years. He was a member of Falls City Lodge #9, A.F. & A.M., Orient Lodge #13, Rulo, Falls City Eastern Star, York Rite Masons and Sesostris Temple of Shriners.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, working in the yard and spending time with his family.

Lloyd is survived by his daughters, Carol (Larry) Graham, of Lincoln, and Sondra (Brian) Haarberg, of Frisco, TX; his son, Bruce (Roberta) Bindle, of Falls City; three grandchildren, Brian (Shawna) Bindle (Falls City), Heather Bahr (The Colony, TX) and Nathan Haarberg (University of Nebraska-Lincoln); and two great-grandchildren Bailey Bindle (Brownville, NE) and Brody Bindle (Omaha, NE). As well as his sister, Elsie Monaghan of Hiawatha, KS and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June in 2015 after nearly 70 years of marriage; his parents, his stepmother, Lillie Bindel; sisters, Dorothy Bindel and Frances Vaughn, and brothers, Russell, Phillip, and Raymond Bindel. 

A private family only funeral (due to Covid) will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home, Falls City, with Pastor Rick Martin of the First Presbyterian Church Falls City officiating with private interment at Steele Cemetery. Military graveside honors by Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

Open visitation to the public will began Thursday afternoon, September 9th for those who wanted to pay their respects.
