Melvin Rieschick Obituary

Melvin Louis Rieschick, 95, was born October 5th, 1924 in Falls City, NE.  Melvin passed away September 24, 2020.  He was the youngest son of the late Louis and Amelia (Hartman) Rieschick.

On July 5, 1945 he married Mildred Gilliland at Hiawatha, KS. She passed away August 30, 2015.

Melvin grew up on his parent’s farm northeast of Falls City, NE.  He worked the farm with his family until taking over the farming in 1946.  He farmed in Richardson County until retiring in 1989.  Following retirement, he and Mildred did antiquing.  They traveled to shows in their trailer buying and selling antiques, with family accompanying them on many trips.  They saw much of the United States traveling with their trailer and visiting family.  Their daughter-in-law, Pat, gave them a trip to Alaska which was a place they wanted to see but could not take their trailer.  Melvin talked about this trip for many years, especially a helicopter ride to the top of a glacier.

Melvin was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th & Towle), Falls City, where he served on the church council for several years, and after retirement volunteered doing flower beds or helped as needed.  He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Elks Lodge.  Melvin served on the volunteer ambulance squad, donated blood and received several gallon pins through the years.

Melvin was always glad to help a neighbor and twice worked with a group of men to farm ground for a family when a neighbor passed away suddenly.  He and Mildred shared a strong faith in God and the first money set aside each month was for the church.  They always believed the Lord would provide.

Melvin is survived by a daughter, Diana Vogt and her husband, Carl of Camdenton, MO;  a son, David and his wife, Sue of Lake Jackson, TX;  a daughter-in-law, Pat Rieschick and her special friend Mike Harson of Falls City, NE;  a sister, Darlene Tisdel of Falls City;  four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his parents;  a son, Dennis;  a sister,  Ava Moore;  a brother, Milton;  and a granddaughter,  Christina in infancy.

His funeral will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (20th and Towle St.) with Reverend Andrew Chavanak officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
