Oscar "Butch" Larson Obituary

Oscar E. “Butch” Larson, Jr., 84, of Verdon, passed away September 23, 2020 at Falls City.  He was born July 6, 1936, at his home in Verdon, to the late Oscar E., Sr. and Bessie (Sample) Larson.

On December 21, 1956, he married Ruth Schnell in Scottsbluff, NE.  They were married for 33 years and lived the majority of their married life in Verdon, where they raised their two daughters, Debbie and Tammy.  They were divorced in 1989.

Butch was born and raised in Verdon and lived there his entire life, with the exception of his work travels which occasionally took him temporarily to other states.  Over the years, he enjoyed raising mink, horses, restoring antique classic cars, junking, and farming.  He was a member of Omaha-based Steamfitters Local #464 from which he retired in 1996.  He was also a master welder.

He is survived by his two daughters, Debra (Ken) Nelson of Denver, CO, and Tamra Hill of Leawood, KS; and sister-in-law Lonnie Larson, Lincoln, NE.  He is also survived by four grandchildren:  Jarod (Beth) Thomas, Monroe, MI, Erin (Joey) Jarred, Verdon, Brandt (Sarai) Hill, Olathe, KS, and Alex Nelson, Denver, CO; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents in 1989, half-brother Kenneth Dappen, half-sister Thelma Dappen Juhn, his special friend Lois Reedy Hodges in 2009, brother Paul Larson in 2019, and son-in-law Creighton Hill in 2017.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Verdon Cemetery where cremains will be interred.

At Butch’s request, there will be no viewing, visitation, or public funeral service.
