Richard Werner

Richard Werner, 95, of Falls City, NE, passed away December 1, 2021 at Falls City. He was born May 21, 1926 at Salem, NE to Ernest and Bonnie (Smith) Werner.

He married Dorothy A. Fritz on December 4, 1948 at Plattsmouth, NE. She passed away March 27, 2014.

Richard enlisted in the U. S. Army on November 1, 1944 at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. He served in the European Theatre and charged the beach at Normandy. He was awarded a EAME Theatre Ribbon and WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 20, 1945 at Camp Breckenridge, KY.

Richard was raised at Fargo, NE and following his schooling he was a farm hand and worked at Falls City Creamery. When he was discharged, he returned to Falls City and worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. When married the couple established their home in Falls City and he worked as a farm hand and then for James Oil Company. They moved to Omaha, NE in 1953 where he worked for Wilson’s Livestock for 25 years. He then worked in maintenance for Millard School District for 13 years, retiring in 1989 and moving back to Falls City in 1999 where he has lived since. He was a member of the First Brethren Church, American Legion Post #102, VFW and DAV.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Howard and her husband Ralph of Omaha, NE, Bonnie Menousek and her husband Tom of Andover, KS, five grandchildren and four great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Billie Ray and Edward, a sister, Wanda Troth.

His funeral will be held on December 6, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Hader officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery. Military Graveside Honors By Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.

Viewing will begin Saturday afternoon from noon to 5:00 PM and on Sunday from noon to 5:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
