Vernon "Jake" Shafer

Vernon “Jake” Shafer, 69, of Falls City, NE, passed away January 30, 2025 at Lincoln, NE. He was born September 14, 1955 at Falls City to Charles and Phyllis (Rowell) Shafer.

He married Debra Kirkendall on August 17, 1974 at Falls City

Jake was raised east of Shubert and graduated from Southeast Consolidated High School in 1973. Following graduation, he farmed and livestock. In 1995 he stopped farming and began working at Hinky Dinky as the frozen food aisle manager. He retired in 2021. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife photography, spending time at Big Lake, riding 4-wheelers and family. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Jake is survived by his wife, Debbie of Falls City, sister, Charlotte Timmerman of Bellevue, NE, brother, Marlyn and his wife Linda of Springdale, AR, brother-in-law, Bruce Kirkendall and his wife Janet of Auburn, NE, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Luday and Donna Shafer, niece, Holly Shafer, brother-in-law, Jere Timmerman and his in-laws, Jesse and Donna Kirkendall.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Harris Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-5:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
