Rodney F. Knaup, 81, of Falls City, NE passed away August 4, 2016 at Falls City. He was born April 2, 1935 at Elmwood, NE to the late Henry and Gene Ola (Fitch) Knaup.
Rodney served in the National Guard at Ft. Leavenworth, KS.
On September 28, 1963 he married Elizabeth "Betty" James at Nebraska City, NE. She passed away December 7, 2008.
Rodney spent his early years on a farm near Murdock, NE. His family later moved into Weeping Water, NE and he graduated Weeping Water High School in 1953. He attended Peru State College and in 1956 graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago. He returned to Weeping Water where he worked for Hobson Funeral Home until moving to Falls City in 1961 where he took employment at Dorr Funeral Home. Rodney became an owner following the death of Mr. Dorr. He retired in August of 2009. He received his 50 year Funeral Director Pin in 2007. He was a member of First Christian Church, 60 year member and Past Master of Falls City Lodge #9 A.F. & A.M., member of York Rite Masons, member of Falls City Elks Lodge #963, Sesostris Temple of Shrine at Lincoln, Past President of Southeast Nebraska Shrine Club, 50 year member and Past President and Secretary of Falls City Rotary Club and Paul Harris Fellow, Past Chairman of Falls City Housing Authority, Past President of Falls City Jaycees and received the Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, he served on the Steele Cemetery Advisory Board and was Grand Marshall of The Cobblestone Parade.
Rod is survived by daughter, Mary Schimonitz and her husband Robert of Falls City; sons, David Knaup and his wife Karen of Milton, WA; Steven Knaup and his wife Mary of Falls City; sister, Roberta Poppe and her husband Bernard of Lincoln, NE; sisters-in-law, Mary Moyer and her husband Edward of Peoria, IL, Helen Lundak and her husband Joel of Nebraska City, NE, brother-in-law, John James and his wife Jayne of Nebraska City, grandchildren, Tom Schimonitz, Emily Schimonitz, Nathaniel Knaup, and Mason Knaup, and two step-grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at First Christian Church with Reverend Fay Ann Blaylock officiating. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 7-8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
The family prefers memorials be made to First Christian Church or Steele Cemetery Fund for beautification of the Cemetery.
Viewing will begin Wednesday afternoon.
