Carl Kroeker

Carl G. Kroeker, age 96 of Lincoln, formerly of York, NE died on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Lincoln. He was born on December 15, 1920 to George J and Sara E. (Friesen) Kroeker at Henderson, NE. Carl served for the United States Army Air Corp in WWII, from August 20, 1942 – November 24, 1945. On April 9, 1947, he was united in marriage to Edith E. Thurtell Johnson in Newton, KS.

Carl was a salesman for AJ Dresden for 28 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as deacon. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Honor Guard, and founding member of the York Drum and Bugle Corp. He was a 56 year member of the Elks Club, where he had served as Chair of the Christmas Charity and was also named the 1986 Elk of the Year. Carl was very active in the community and belonged to the “good guy” club.

He is survived by his sons Robert (Maureen) Johnson of Peachtree City, GA and Larry (special friend Marcia Wallen) Kroeker Sr of Lincoln; daughter Carol (Gary) Daake of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 11 great great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and eight siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 27, 2017 at Metz Chapel with Pastor Lyle K. Schoen officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, York, NE. A lunch will be provided after the interment at the Elks Club in York. Visitation will be from 1pm-8pm Wednesday, 9am-8pm Thursday, with the family greeting friends from 5pm-7pm Thursday evening at Metz Mortuary. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be directed to the Elks Christmas Charity or York Adopt-A-Pet.
